Signed picture of Ray Wood the Busby Babe & Manchester United footballer. SORRY SOLD

Ray Wood. This is a really wonderful small postcard size picture signed by Ray Wood the Manchester United footballer. The picture is taken from a Charles Buchan Football Monthly magazine of the time and has been hand signed for me by Ray Wood in Blue ink across his shorts.  Wood was a Manchester United goalkeeper who played in the 1956 and 1957 championship-winning teams. During the 1957 FA Cup Final against Aston Villa, Wood was the victim of what was then a perfectly legal shoulder charge. In the sixth minute of the game Wood successfully claimed a cross; however, Villa outside-left Peter McParland clattered into him, breaking Wood's jaw due to him ducking to avoid the challenge. Wood eventually came back on to the field after treatment to play as a forward, United went on to lose the game 2–1. Wood played 178 leagues games between 1949 and 1958. He also played for England three times. Ray passed away on July 7th 2002 aged 71. Great piece of United memeorabilia, The other item in the photo can also be purchased from this site.
